It Goes by Fast

You’ve heard it many times
It goes by fast
Sleepless nights disappear
Pick-up and drop-offs are no more
Messes are not left
Chatter becomes just silence
You hold space for your children
In a different way now
You worry they are safe
You want them
To make good choices
To have you be a part of their life
Not in an intrusive way
But, in a way that lets them be who they need to be
To grow how they need to
To fail and get back up
To entrust them to a higher power
It goes by fast
You realize you could never fully protect them
From life
From bully’s
From their pain
From other people’s pain
Because
This is life
Beautiful at times
Painfully broken at others
It goes by fast.
You can’t go back
And change how you may have scarred them
And show up more for them
Understand better
Change directions
Hindsight now can’t help you fix what was before
As you know better
It gives you time to do better
Show up now
Understand now
Give space now
Pour love in now
Ask for forgiveness now
It is no longer your time to teach them lessons
It is your time to catch them when they fall
Encourage them to get up
See their strength
Remind them of their strength
And be that place
That no matter what
Will always be their life breath
Their comfort zone
Their home.
